2010 January Members Show

The Kennel Club of Jersey held a Members’ Show at the Royal Jersey Showground, an excellent modern venue with plenty of facilities for both exhibitors & visitors alike. The committee work hard to put on a good show & to make all welcome & there was a lovely atmosphere throughout the day with exhibitors helping each other & cheering each other on. It was great fun to go back to a show with old fashion values & one which reminded me of some of the earlier shows here on the mainland.

I was lucky enough to be able to judge the sporting classes and best in show, my choice for which went to the Whippet dog, Petwalk Que Sera Sera, this quality boy has excellent bone & feet, lovely depth of chest & a great front assembly, masculine head & expression with lovely ears, he moved a dream in both the breed & here to win in a quality packed line-up. RBIS, well made & showy Shih Tzu, Debeaux Russia Wiv Love, in excellent coat & condition with an excellent head & mouth, strong topline & well set & carried tail, showed his socks off to win

DACHSHUNDS – L/H – OD (1) 1 Walker’s Owlery Sparticus with Petwalk, well made boy with a good length & depth of body, lovely keel & masculine head & expression, in good coat & condition with a good hindquarter, moved & showed well. BOB. MIN L/H – L (2) 1 Child-Villiers’ Woodflame Foresteri Rococo, pretty, feminine young lady who was compact & a good shape when she settled, a good size with a nice coat, played handler up but when she tried, gave a good account of herself, I think if she settles, she could do well; 2 Cottrell’s Woodflame Trinatario Maya. OB (1) 1 Cottrell’s Garbosa Cocoa at Woodflame, mature choc with a pretty head & expression, dam of Rococo, a good size & shape & showed & moved well on well boned legs & feet, excellent keel. BOB. WHIPPETS – P (1) Walker’s Petwalk Simply Wkd, beautiful 10 month old bitch who is quality, good make, shape & size, lovely depth of chest & a good topline, pretty head & expression with a good eye shape, well set ears & a good neck & shoulders, moved well. Just needs to settle in front movement but she is still young & has time on her side. BP. L (2) 1 Officer’s Eeri Moonshadow, brindle boy who is just out of puppy, moved well but still young, good front action & a masculine head with good bone & nice feet, showed well to win the class; 2 Officer’s Eeri Dark Side Of The Moon. OD (4) 1 Brodie-Dyer’s Petwalk Que Sera Sera, BOB & BIS; 2 Brodie-Dyer’s Nave Of Spades of Nevedith; 3 Officer’s Eeri Love Me Do at Elangeni. OB (3,1a) 1 Walker’s Barnesmore Say No More with Petwalk, finer bitch of a lovely type, very feminine & quality all through with excellent bone & feet, moved & showed well, good depth of chest & a well muscled hindquarters, correct topline; 2 Officer’s Eeri Norwegian Wood. NORWEGIAN ELKHOUNDS – OD (1) 1 Gilluley’s Bowerhinton Bonanza at Gilkaro, cracking boy, what a mover lovely tailset, in excellent coat & condition, masculine head with well carried ears, good neck & shoulder. BOB. OB (1) 1 Gilluley’s Bowerhinton Bright N Early, pretty head & well carried ears, lovely eye & expression, good neck & shoulders, quality girl who was holding on to her coat by a whisper! Good depth of chest & an excellent hindquarters, showed well when she decided she would. W/H DACHSHUND – OD (1) 1 Goodall’s Gayteckels Sea Expectation at Renloft, beautiful dog with the correct coat, if taken a bit short, good length of body with a lovely keel & a good neck & shoulder, nice hindquarters, moved & showed well, alone but could win anywhere, belies his age. OB (1) 1 Pitman’s Cloudside Crystal Clear with Gayteckels, this grand old veteran was put down in nice condition, she showed well & has a very feminine head & expression, again you would never guess that she is over 11 years old. HOUND GROUP – G1, the Whippet; G2, the Elkhound; G3, the L/h Dachshund; G4, the W/h Dachshund.  PG1, the Whippet. HOUNDS – MP (1) 1 P Simply Wkd. BOB; 2 Fletcher & Seedhouse’s Granitangel Zircon. OB (3,1) 1 Granitangel Rough Diamond, black bitch with a feminine head & expression, nice type & a good size, still needs to mature but showed well when she settled, moved well to beat her dam; 2 Fletcher & Seedhouse’s Rockstaff Kaos at Granitangel. CESKY TERRIERS – OD (1) 1 Marett’s Lastarean Kral of Zidout, well presented boy who moved with vigour, good head & expression, good length of body with a good ribcage & a lovely hindquarter which was well muscled, showed well & although alone could win anywhere. BOB. OB (2) 1 Marett’s Gayteckels Highflyer Pd’h, light bitch who moved OK, preferred her coat & presentation, liked her hindquarters, pretty head & expression, balanced bitch who showed well not showing her age at all; 2 Marett’s Malsville Lincoln Ridley. WEST HIGHLAND WHITES – P (2,1) 1 Mckalay Does Your Mother Know, excellent coat which was well presented on this pretty bitch, moved as a puppy but she is a good size with a good depth of chest & a nice neck & shoulder, she is quality & will do well. BP & BOB. SCOTTISH TERRIERS – OD (1) 1 Laffoley’s Gaterin Mac Adair at Yeloffal, well coated dog who moved well, good length of head & a well set tail, good topline & hindquarters, coat harsh & an excellent ribcage & loin, a good size & showed well. BOB. TERRIER GROUP – G1, the Cesky; G2, the Stafford; G3, the Bull Terrier & G4, the Scottish Terrier. GOLDEN RETRIEVERS – P (3) 1 Philippe’s Katescalen Strip The Willow, mature boy with a nice bone, good coat & condition, moved well on well boned legs & feet, well bred & it shows, he tried hard & showed his socks off to take the class from his siblings; 2 Philippe’s Katesclan Montgomery Rant; 3 Philippe’s Katesclan Flora McDonald. L (1) 1 Williams’ Tilldawn Spirit Of Sumer, pale bitch who still needs coat to complete the picture, good topline & hindquarters, pretty head & expression, still loose in movement, but time is on her side, good neck & shoulders. OD (2, 1) 1 Bouchere’s Tenfield Race Away, good workmanlike dog of an excellent type, masculine head & expression, well carried ears, good coat & condition, well boned legs & feet, good depth & width of chest, excellent hindquarters, moved & showed well to take BOB. OB (3,1) 1 Philippe’s Katesclan Miss Appropriate, lacks coat at present but she is typical, well made bitch with a good neck & shoulders, strong topline & well set tail, good bone & feet; 2 Williams’ Tilldawn Spirit Of Summer. IRISH SETTERS – OD (1) Cox’s Tiroen True Blue, lovely boy with excellent coat in lovely condition, good bone & feet, masculine head & expression, moved so well with grace & purpose, a good size & shape. BOB. OB (2) 1 Cox’s Tiroen Tickled Pink, good moving bitch with a lovely head & expression, good coat well presented, lovely neck & shoulders, excellent eye & expression, sound mover on well boned legs & feet; 2 Cox’s Tiroen Take My Breath Away. LABRADORS – L (3,1) 1 Baudain’s Jancerie Country Caramel at Beauvoir, yellow youngster whose head still needs to finish to complete picture, but an excellent outline with a good neck & shoulder, well boned legs & feet, correct depth of chest & an otter tail, not an overlarge girl but very feminine; 2 Green’s Foguesdelf Star Of India. OD (1) Baudains’ Rocheby Brigadoon at Beauvoir, yellow boy of quality, what a neck & shoulders, such a showdog, well set otter tail carried correctly on the move with his strong topline & well boned legs & feet, masculine head & expression with well carried ears, correct coat. OB (2,1) 1 Evans’ Taleem Truly Scrumptious, yellow workmanlike girl with a good head & expression, well muscled hindquarters, feminine bitch who moved well, a good size & shape & a good ribcage & loin. AMERICAN COCKERS – P (1) 1 Houghton & Gresley’s Fielgar Snow Alert, black 11 months old boy who moved & showed well, good coat with an excellent head & expression, well set tail & a good topline & ribcage, shows lots of promise, when he matures, should have a good career. OD (2) 1 Noel & Walker’s Mycalleys Happy Harry, buff boy who is the ultimate showdog. Put down in excellent coat & condition, masculine head & edpression, good neck & shoulders, well set tail, moved with verve covering the ground well, good ribcage & loin.
